Add Tweets to your micro blog on My Chatbox

We have enabled a new feature on My Chatbox where you can add a Twitter profile username to a chatbox you have created or that you are an administrator of. Once added, Tweet Fetcher will synchronize all the tweets from the added Twitter user to the chatbox. Any new Tweets that the user posts on Twitter will also be published to their chatbox including a link to their Twitter profile. Have a look at the chatbox Freedom to see this in action.

This is a great feature where you can post a Tweet on Twitter and it will automatically be synchronized to a chatbox of yours on My Chatbox. Tweet Fetcher checks every 30 minutes for new tweets and publishes new tweets automatically to the chatboxes.

How to add a Twitter account to a Chatbox

You can add a Twitter profile username to a new chatbox that you create on the last Chatbox create settings screen. You simply add the the Twitter profile username and it will all be setup. If you already have a Chatbox, when you edit the chatbox, you will find a new setting on the Chatbox settings where you can add a Twitter username.

Feeding your Tweets

A couple of weeks ago we have enabled a feature where you can add an external blog rss feed to a chatbox of yours. By adding a blog RSS feed to a chatbox of yours and also adding your Twitter profile username, you are enabling more ways to make your content travel.

Social Bookmark links on My Chatbox

My Chatbox members can now “social bookmark” their favorite links on My Chatbox. Other members can comment and vote on the bookmarks you have submitted in a “Digg” like style format.

When you are logged in to My Chatbox, find a new menu on the “My Account” menu on the right hand side titled “Create a link”. You can also create a new social bookmark from the “Links Directory” by clicking on the button “Create a link”.

New Social Bookmark

On the page that you create a new link, select a category and enter your bookmark address in the URL textbox. Once you have selected a category and added the address of the bookmark, click on “Fetch Page Details”. My Chatbox will browse the address (URL) you have added and try to fetch the link title, description and any rich media elements it finds to use as the image Thumbnail for the link. All of the link details can be edited such as the title, description and the thumbnail.

You can also social bookmark YouTube videos where a Thumbnail of the Video will be displayed and when clicked, a new window will open in My Chatbox where you can view the video.

Social Bookmark Votes

All My Chatbox members can vote on the bookmarks by clicking on the thumbs up or thumbs down image below the link thumbnail. Members can also comment on any of the public bookmarks on My Chatbox. All the links on the Links Directory can be filtered to display the most popular links, newly created links, highest rated, etc by selecting a filter from the drop down “Order by”.

Share Social Bookmarks

On the links directory, members can click on the share button where they can share the link to their profile or to a dedicated Chatbox they have created on My Chatbox. Social bookmarks can also be created directly from a Chatbox by clicking “Create Chatbox Link” on a Chatbox. View an example of this on the General Chatbox.

The social bookmark links section of My Chatbox is another great way how you can share valuable content that you find on the Web with your My Chatbox followers.

Add an external blog RSS feed to your micro blog

You have read correctly. That’s right folks – you can now add an external blog RSS feed to any of your Chatboxes (micro blogs) on My Chatbox. Everytime you publish a new blog post, your Chatbox feed will update within 60 minutes and fetch your new content and publish it automatically on your micro blog.

Benefits of adding an external blog feed

As you might have noticed, all the links on My Chatbox are “dofollow“. All the new external blog posts on your Chatbox includes the name of the published blog post with a link back to the original content.

Not to give everything away for free, we have limited the external blog post content to a maximum of 200 characters to keep by the simple rule of My Chatbox – keep it short and simple.

The new external blog feed items on the activity stream will contain all the bells and whistles of normal content items where you can reply on the external blog content, share it on Twitter, Google Buzz, Facebook, email and you can mark it as a favourite item.

How to add a feed to your Chatbox

It is really easy to add an external blog feed to your micro blog on My Chatbox. When you create a new Chatbox, the last step in the creation process will ask you to enter the external feed URL. For existing Chatboxes, when you edit the settings of your Chatbox, you will see a new menu item “External Blog feed” where you can enter the URL. Once updated you are good to go.

Invite anyone to My Chatbox Micro Blogging Community

You can now invite anyone to join My Chatbox Micro Blogging Community by adding their email address to the sidebar section “Invite Anyone” when you are logged into My Chatbox.

After you have done this or when you click on the “continue” link, you will be taken to a page where you can invite up to 10 people and where you can customize the email text of the invitation.

The default email invitation text will include your name and a link back to your profile on My Chatbox.

This is an exciting new feature where you can invite your friends to take part in the micro blogging happening on this new micro blogging community.

Part 2: Share content from your favourite social media channels on My Chatbox

On August 18 2010 we released an exciting feature on My Chatbox where you can share content from a couple of favourite social media channels on your micro blogging posts. All you have to do is include the URL of the content on your micro blog post and when you refresh the page, the content will be displayed.

If you would like to share a YouTube video, simply copy and paste the URL of the YouTube video in your update eg: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2oB4EyEs8w and after you click on “Post Update”, the YouTube video will be displayed after you refresh the page.

We have decided to include even more social channels to the list that you can share content from.

More social media channels will be added to this list in the future.

We have created a short presentation on My Chatbox focused around the micro blogs on this Web 2.0 channel and how you can use one.

Chatboxes (micro blogs) on My Chatbox is the heart and soul of this micro blogging community where anyone can create a personal micro blog or one for their business. You can also add multiple editors to your Chatbox, adding more than one face to your micro blogging strategy.

Share micro blog posts on Twitter, Google Buzz, Facebook and Digg

You can now share any micro blog post or activity update on My Chatbox by clicking on the “Share” button below the content. Once the button is clicked, a new row with popular social channels – Twitter, Google Buzz, Facebook Share, Digg and Email will open where you can click any of these channels to share the content.

This is a great content sharing feature where you can share your micro blog posting on My Chatbox to other social media channels, making sure all of your friends can view your content.

We will be adding more share options in the future.

Chatboxes in Plain English

This is not a “how to” blog post but rather a general information post regarding Chatboxes (micro blogs) on My Chatbox and how your company can use My Chatbox to build brand authority and recognition.

Members can create free micro blogs (Chatboxes) on My Chatbox on any topic or niche. When a member creates a new chatbox, they are automatically the administrator of the micro blog.

Other members can join the micro blog and the administrator can then assign “Editors” to the Chatbox. These editors can control and add content to the chatbox. They can add content and moderate any replies on the micro blog.

Example:

If you own a record store, you can create a Chatbox (XYZ Records) and let all your employees contribute to the Chatbox focused on your products or services. Other members can reply, but only you and your employees (editors) can add top level content to the Chatbox.

This method is a powerful way to get all of your employees involved in your micro blogging campaign (social media) where your company doesn’t neccessarily need one face behind your logo, product or services.

Everyone in your organization can contribute and add value to your micro blogs on My Chatbox.

Login with Twitter on My Chatbox

We have added a new feature to My Chatbox where you can now login and register with your Twitter account. This is a quick way for users to register and login to this Micro Blogging Community that does not want to register via the normal registration page on My Chatbox.

Users can still register on My Chatbox if they do not want to register/login with their Twitter account.

New Members

If you have logged in/registered with Twitter on My Chatbox, be sure to edit your profile and add your email address to your My Chatbox account so that you can stay up to date with all the micro blogging on this community.

You can now share content from your favourite social media channels on My Chatbox. How do you use this exciting new feature? Simple! Input any content URL from one of the listed social media channels below into your activity update or on any of your Micro Blogs (Chatboxes) on My Chatbox.

If you would like to share a YouTube video, simply copy and paste the URL of the YouTube video in your update eg: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJfCVU0dtIg and after you click on “Post Update”, the YouTube video will be automatically displayed.
